A SAARCLAW delegation led by Hon’ble President - Chief Justice of Bhutan Sonam Tobgye and comprising of Secretary General Hemant K Batra, Justice Kalyan Shrestha, senior most Judge of the Nepal Supreme Court and Judge Kinley Namgay from Bhutan visited the Head Quarter of ADB in Manila. The visit was supposedly for mere preliminary meeting for a proposed association with ADB. But, it turned out to be highly eventful visit. Delegation had several meetings with the most high profile officials of ADB (almost 10 of them) including the Hon. President of ADB, H.E. Takehiko Nakao, who is also the Chairperson of ADB's Board of Directors. Before joining ADB, Mr. Nakao was the Minister of Finance for International Affairs at the Ministry of Finance of Japan. SAARCLAW Delegation made presentations in the meetings, which convinced the ADB to form an opinion that SAARCLAW was the most potential legal body in the Asian region. The Secretary General of SAARCLAW signed the Memorandum of Understanding with Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Manila, Philippines on 12th Nov 2013 in the presence of esteemed gathering. On behalf of ADB, its Vice President Bruce Davis signed the MoU. Prior to this, Mr. Davis was the Australian Ambassador to Ireland and Director General of Australian Aid. The Delegation also had a detailed meeting with the Chief Justice of Philippines, Justice Maria Lourdes P. A. Sereno.
