Gandhi Global Family presents Mahatma Gandhi Seva Medal to Hemant Batra, Secretary General, SAARCLAW
On the occasion of the 152nd Birth Anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore at the KIIT College of Engineering, Gandhi Global Family’s Vice President PadamShri S.P. Varma presented Mahatma Gandhi Seva Medal to Shri Hemant Batra, Secretary General, SAARCLAW and Chairman of a leading law firm - Kaden Boriss, for strengthening people to people contact amongst the SAARC countries. The medals have also been presented earlier to His Holiness Dalai Lama, K.R. Narayanan (former President of India), Bill Clinton (former President of USA), Sonia Gandhi and others.
While speaking on the occasion the Chief Guest Shri Hemant Batra who is also member of the Leadership Committee of ICAAP of UNDP & UNAIDS said,“ At this juncture, where the whole globe is experiencing the shrinking of morality, we need to know more about Mahatma Gandhiji & Rabindernath Tagore and spread their message to all possible corners of the world.”
While honouring Shri. B.R. Kamrah, Chairman of KIIT with the Rabindranath Tagore Award,Shri Hemant Batra further stressed that we all are capable of uniting our brethren globally, the only difference is if done with values inculcated by our great thinkers, philosophers and luminaries like Gandhi ji and Gurudevji, we shall always be on the forefront of all services to humanity.
Earlier, Padamshri S.P Varma in his presidential address said that Tagore was the first who called Gandhi a Mahatma or a great soul. Varma mentioned that Tagore’s compositions were chosen by two nations as National Anthems: the Republic of India’s Jana Gana Mana and Bangladesh’s Amar Shonar Bangla. He mentioned Tagore was the first non-European who win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913. He also highlighted the activities of GGF undertaken by various units of the country under the able leadership of its President Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad Hon’ble union Minister for Health & Family Welfare.
Shri Ashok Kapoor, Chairman GGF Delhi State branch while appreciating the roles being played by all, said that “It is a matter of pride that we have leading lights like Hemant Batraji committed to Gandhian values withing the SAARC and a great satisfaction that Shri Kamrahji, who has been with Mahatma Gandhi, is guiding us in this present period, with his experience of over 65 years”.
Vote of thanks was presented by Shri Kailash Pati Sharma, Director, Dell International. Other dignitaries present on the occasion were Mohd Mehsan Arshad from Dubai, Shri Harsh Vardhan CEO KIIT, Dr Nileema Kamrah, Aamir Rasheed, Ankush Varma and academia and students of KIIT.
