Happy International Women’s Day!

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, SAARCLAW (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation in Law), SAARC apex body, would like to take this opportunity to honor every Woman and to salute their immense contribution in shaping the society. International Women's Day, 8th March, is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. International Women’s day is not only a day for celebration but a reason to re-evaluate a tribute and a time to honor loved and admired ones in the world. International Women's Day is a collective day of global celebration and a call for gender parity.

The world has been observing International Women's Day since the early 1900's. Gender equality is a prerequisite to sustainable development which is maintained in newly endorsed global sustainable development goals and backed up by research. "The story of women's struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights," says world-renowned feminist, journalist and social and political activist Gloria Steinem.

SAARCLAW with our partners are hoping to work to empower women for increasing their participation in democratic and electoral processes and strengthening of the women’s movement throughout South Asia. We are sure that South Asian women will continue to exert all their strength in the name of a dynamic development and progress.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, SAARCLAW Regional Secretariat rejuvenates commitment to end gender based violence, accelerate gender parity and making South Asia a Region where all women have equal right and safety. SAARCLAW will commit to do everything in our means to support the integration of women’s voices in decision making, to enhance the participation of women in the development of their countries.
